Is it not interesting at times to bring to the forefront of one’s learning experience an old lesson to re-examine and perhaps derive some wisdom and understanding never thought of before? (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

A Moment in Time

Several paces behind lurks the relentless past
that chooses to slither with poisonous tongue,
ever hesitant to retreat,
awaiting the moment to strike.

Several paces ahead
stands the mongoose of patience,
ever saluting the tenacity of the lure
remonstrating life's gallant stride.

Enter time and space,
the provider of measure,
that perpetual start gate
keeping alive future challenges.

And what of our present,
where footsteps arch and hold before daring
today's razor edged macadam road,
surrounded by bramble pillars of conceit?

Little wonder we suspend our flight of change
to somewhere,

 anywhere.

For who has not wished to linger
with their wink at the threatening shadows
and forestalled a projection to the future
where all is thought safe and warm?

The footsteps begin their descent
as we invite yet the next delusion
of time and space,
past and future,
imagination providing us evaporative solace.

Be here now,

for today’s moment of time

is but a rarefied element

needing to join other wisps of

 vanishing yesterdays.

As I read your prostry I began to analyze my own situation compared to your view of the past. Fortunately, the good of my past far out numbers the regrettable. And the future, so far, looks safe and warm, although there are contingencies if things change, they have to be contemplated. But in my life it's easier to cut short than it's to sustain.

It's the present that bothers me. Safe in my cocoon of warmth and not venturing out, I've wasted some opportunities that I should have taken part in, but let slip by. Today, I had my third tooth removed in favor of destroying some decay and adding a crown while being more indebted to the dentist than her services seem to allow. And the accompanying ache, a headache and slight fever is new to me down that memory lane where other tooth procedures never required any fever or headache reducers.

So, the now awaits a hearty meal that I can still eat chewing on my right side, jumping into bed and getting rid of this chilling feeling creeping into my body like something from long yesteryear.

A bit gloomy and bitter to the taste, wich I imagine is what you were aming for. But still with a reminder that today need to be cheriched for tomorrow it can all change.

Yesterday is filled with nostalgia of things past that failed to materialize into tomorrow's expectations, hence they recede into a stockpile of disappointments--after we beat the life out of them. At least that is what my treadmill keeps telling me. You told it much better.

Ah how we poets love the unending interplay of past, present and future all bound up with a ribbon and bow in the "eternal now" of the present. There is no end to how these things are perceived; but this is a beginning.

i love how you covered the ever eternal now. i do agree now is all we have and pulls all power as it becomes the only focal point, making the past a part of tomorrow and tomorrow today, collapsing time and space. it is our only point of creation. another wonderful piece, Odin. thank you.
