Rubicon' Reality

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Line crossing in its many variations has long been fashioned as reality’s sacred right, often a variable right of passage. But history is full of cross-over minds and hearts that said there are other ways to be without violating reality, or the traditional ways a culture conducts itself. (painting by Darastean)

Rubicon’s Reality

Actuality is of no patience

Knows not of empathy

Survives as perfunctory essence

Knowing…

Only imagination serves as foe

To this fortified movement

Where weapons of fact

Notwithstanding

Misjudges the breadth

And reach of creativity’s gentle presence

A force that can bestow on ridged landscapes

Where minions of rule-followers’

Imagination has the sentient power

To invent variations on the facts

Without falsifying realness

Why is such a boundary so enforced?

Why must the “what ifs” of life

Have to face defiance by truth’s reality?

Perhaps…

Unlike Caesar of 49 B.C.

The crossing of the line

Will not cast a die

An irretrievable violation

Some forget…

Rubicon’s reality

Awaits the non-combative

Alliance between realness

And castle-building of another kind

Where conceptualization finds solace

In embracing the imagined compliments of truth

With inventiveness and daring

To stand respectfully before reality

Yet feel the freedom to be of inventive integrity

Such is…

The historical crossing over

Into much of history’s revelations

Where many anonymous free thinkers

Became opponents of lock-step manifest.

Knowing to embrace rubicon’s reality

Was to know true freedom

Through tenacious belief in self

It's true... if everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking. I imagine that living could be construed as an art form that no man can teach another, but every person must learn on their own. The rational conscious creative mind is perhaps the greatest weapon there is. A thought-provoking insight. Enjoyed. Peace.... r

Resonates well with me. What else do we have if we don't have faith in what we can do regardless of what "they" want. It isn't crossing the line that's dangerous, it is the possible repercussions of the line drawers.

Reminded me of the opening song for every episode of Queen Sugar… "Keep the colors in the lines."

I love the way you set up the juxtaposition between the real and the imagined for the reader, an idea worthy of its time and one that we need to take account. "Where conceptualization finds solace in embracing the imagined compliments of truth." Where would we be without imagination, creativity, and inventiveness? In a dark whole indeed, alone with start reality.
