Poem Artwork

Time’s Deadline

Do you know…

You were once of touch

The hairline opening

Of my wounded heart

The freeing of its flow

The caress of a healing tide

Do you know…

You remain the sound

That need not speak

The breath

You’ll urge tomorrow’s appearance

Do you know…

This airborne abundance of love

Knows no end

Like a windowpane’s reflection

Where light forever shines

Do you know…

You live not as stone

Or molten sound hardened with time

But the adjunct points

The yin and yang

Of growth

Of mistakes’ holy grail of lessons

Do you know…

Yesterday’s tomorrow

Tried to turn you with a flick

Upending your shine

Into shadows forlorn

To remain unspent

Do you know…

Someday you’ll find

Winds may hover overhead

But passion’s steadfast flame

Like drifted sands that never shift

Will remain as smiling wavelets of kindness

All so vital to know

Within the capricious deadline

Of one’s time

As they say in farming country, "Make hay while the sun shines." I love the way you make the words tell the story of the wisdom we gather as our time begins to run out and we assess what we have done that will leave a legacy, good or bad, of what we have done with our lives.

Within the flow of mysterious time, all those myriad experiences that fill our days and our hearts, as exemplified in this poem, "all so vital to know within the capricious deadline of one's time." If we really understood how precious our experiences are within time, we would take more notice and have more value.
