An Artist's Glass Darkly

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

In support of many an artist who accepts his or her personal reality as awareness personified, less endowed beings might want to think twice before condemning such independent creators. (Painting by Joan Miro)

Poem Artwork

An Artist’s Glass Darkly

When one’s passing day is in its shadow realm,

Purchase is found upon

The seat of tranquil repose.

Sleep beckons soundless calm

As the mind’s activity lays to rest synaptic vehemence,

And without prejudice,

The languid undulating dreams of reality

Pause as art in progress.

How rewarding

This launchpad of secrets

Its ambient aura slowly curling upwards

Toward creation’s doors of discovery,

Like thinning cloud plumes of fuel in a countdown

Before imagination is set in motion,

Leaving the world of someone else’s reality,

Those unable to abort the seeing

Through a glass darkly

Repeating remnants of past life’s somnambulism

Insensitive to aspiring future life

Yet to be invented,

Epiphanies bloom…

Dreamscapes of stars celebrate

With rays of obscure light

Awaiting the rapture of creation’s ever-faithful sunrise.

Such becomes the artist’s embrace

Of reality reserved for the imagination.

The creative process is difficult to explain, courageous the one who tries to put it into words of beauty. Well done.

It is amazing that a hundred people could observe the same piece of art
and see it’s ‘reality’ from their own unique, subjective and authentic stance…
We get to peep into the artists consciousness, add our own
interpretation, which combines appreciation, ( or otherwise) personal inspiration, and the daily flow of life in the raw, to claim an absolutely unique vision…absolutely fascinating!

A very interesting and quality poem…

This is tremendous! I can fully see the moment of "aha" appearing in consciousness as I read your poem. Those hours and days granted to the artist poet, writer, and so forth, where life is lived in touch with the flow of creation, the creative imagination meeting with inspiration. Beautiful! What a powerful poem!

When I look at the abstract art you display with your many works of poetry I often see familiar objects and words displayed chaotically or even trajectorlly bound to some point of view. For me it is often easy for me to interpret what the artist is putting on his media, whether it be oil on canvas, icon on objects or other art form like sculpture.

Your words, unlike those images, are often very difficult to interpret your imagination as it wanders through thoughts ethereal and, sometimes disconnected from reality.

A point beautifully made. No one sees all, and the beauty of art—of all kinds—is to see your personal part. Blessings to those who can share a new vision and live beyond their own frame. "Epiphanies bloom…" Love it:)
