One's Personal Road

Many often live out their fate, rather than creating their destiny. “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” - Albert Einstein (Image by Johansson)

One’s Personal Road

How elusive this preordination,
this road only one can travel.

How precarious the voyage,
where side roads and paths
battle for one’s detour.

Yet that road less traveled
is programmed for you alone,
divested of a gambler’s fate,
assured verity at journey’s end.

Surviving the trek,
demands recognition of ill-conceived ambition,
awareness of inherent faults,
humbleness of strength,
avoidance of diversion’s quicksand,
and the trust of one’s inner compass.

Occasionally…

One meets along the way the innocent,
beleaguered by others' control,
traveling back to where they started,
sadly aware their heart remains
hostage to subjugation.

Perhaps a bit wiser,
but likely still enslaved,
by destiny’s nemesis, fate,
they may stumble onto their true road
the one only they can navigate.

Why I like biographies so much. People lives are really interesting. And as your poem astutely asserts, none of us travel the same path, we all take very unique courses in our lives. Why I wrote my autobiography. When people see me and my shriveled arms and hands. They have often made very serious errors about who I am and what I've done with my life.

Why I need to get busy and Echosis. ;-)

Love Johansson's artistry--cool. Easy for Einstein to say. But rather hard for the average individual to do when his/her purpose in life becomes merely being a father or mother of children, ending all those dreams of real value. Their legacies only in the DNA passed on to their offspring.

"preordination" is an interesting choice of words for you. A doctrine asserting that God the Creator has foreordained every event throughout eternity, including the final salvation of man. It's true, there are many things that vie for our attention in this dailiness we experience. And, as we all find out, only certain of them are good for us. Stupid decisions. Good grief.... I've had more than my share. All men/women make mistakes though, but only the wise learn from their mistakes. "A heart that remains hostage to subjugation" Such a sad state. So much of it, and on so many levels. As we've seen throughout history, if some governments cannot subjugate you, they exterminate you. The honesty in this moved me, Odinsan. Your curiosity and desire to grow remains intact. I will read this to Michele. Well done. r
