Totem-Cairn Reality

Is there not credence in accepting, possibly believing, life as we know it is but akin to the stacking of evolution’s blocks? (Image by Staley Park)

Totem-Cairn Reality

Can we ever escape
that which we create
but often choose to ignore?

Like the mismatched rocks of a cairn,
random choice is not an option,
for complimenting shapes and sizes
make up one's balance,
one's direction,
one's harmony.

Yet some…

Such as aspiring high rise urban dwellers
often live a rock, steel and glass totem life,
but with mismatched living blocks,
like mutated animal lineage not of the fittest,
unknowingly making unbalanced directional decisions.

Might they be destined to realize a primeval demise,
like a surreal incarnation atop modern scaffold
where ghostly burial rites of Great Plains nomadic tribes
await the happening?

Can primitive wisdom ever become part of

assumed contemporary importance
before the inverted vortex of tumbling balance
consumes itself atop the rising funnel of ignorance,
distilling the wrongs of misbegotten power
to but sand kernels of infinity's hourglass.

Such might be the destiny of man's innate totems,
the unique building blocks that document the species we are
while stealthily we try desperately to become a species we are not.

The bird knows that a cairn offers a higher vantage point from which to rest for a moment while keeping an eye out ever present predators.

How interesting how you compare evolution with the haphazard, but very purposeful, building of a cairn. After living in nearly 20 apartments during my college days, rarely knowing the person in the next cubicle, I find that high-rise living is about as sterile as one can get. And if you pay for valet services, you don't even park your car or get groceries. Further yet removed from the reality of getting food from mother Earth that most people think is just a matter of going to the supermarket when everyone wants for something from the other side of the world, cheap.

Yes, I truly believe that only the hunters and gatherers that can survive at that level are still the most intelligent people in the world. The rest of us are polluted by our own technology to the point where we think we are more capable than we are. Perhaps leading to our own demise. it is time we get smarter and grow up. First by realizing how stupid we are.
