Stone Skipping
Like the chances necessary,
Life does daily stone-skips
Across the pond of possibilities,
Sighting solidarity waiting on the other side.
So many skips come up short,
Sink to the bottom,
While we try over and over
To swing the action
Out and away,
To jump over the gravity
That constantly pulls
Our hearts,
Our minds,
Of souls,
Away from purchase.
Tenacity alerts our latter years…
A grateful tear from one’s uncompromised raison d'être
Enjoins excitable tendrils of rhythmic time,
Adding accolades of celebratory splash
To the retiring trajectory of one’s plenitude.
Certainly a great analogy to the stone finally losing enough momentum to sink to the bottom.
Also reminded me of a childhood pleasure of mine. So many skips on calm water I couldn't even count them. Now I even have poems that I've lost that sunk very early into oblivion.
