Fearing Risk
Oh, how it pleads
Send rain and sun
But with balance
Thorns trail up its stem-path to the safety of closure
Where
Hours
Days
Weeks
Grant it the light and moisture it hungers for.
Eventually…
Time presents that moment of chance,
The moment to risk the opening of its bud,
Only to hesitate.
For unlocking its petals to exposure,
To have these extensions of crimson beauty
Die in the unpredictable heat,
Is more painful a thought
Than staying closed
In isolation
The dew of a moisture-poised morning
Reminds the bud
That tears of another kind
Hang in the dawning of early morning,
Knowing Mother Nature will wash away the muffled weeping of risk
Held tight by fear’s bondage .
