Time's Endless Closures

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Comparing our work plight to that of our recent ancestors, e.g., '30s and '40s Chicago, New York, et al, I was left thinking: How many of us know of real survival in order to neutralize fear of the next chapter? A recent reviewing of the film “Ad Astra” confirmed such a belief.(Image by CNN)

Time’s Endless Closures

Weathering currents
from birth’s ebb
to the growing old tide.

From embryo on,
purging upon the rocks of reality
becomes an uninvited necessity.

Out of the womb,
we're held high,
slapped,
smiled at
smothered with whispers assuring us,
we’re alive.

Oh, how generously we’re…

Cuddled,
pampered,
protected,
educated,
extricated from the family,
exonerated of past mistakes,
and finally cast to the winds.

Then…

And only then,
the real weathering
of currents begin.

How challenging,
this thrust into foreign waters,
the inevitable coming of age,
at any age, truth be told,
the "Unbelievable" of awakening,
under the mind’s immersion,
gasping for air,
not knowing wisdom waits in silent repose,
Nature’s catharsis of our past superficial struggle.

To be denied such resolve,
is to not know of infinite breath,
the conviction that another kind of living
is ready to begin.

Yes…

It’s just a matter of time

before one realizes

Existence like Time

is of endless closures

into more beginnings.

'Ad Astra' was interesting. Some anomalies though. Like when they're in the future and the ships and stations are still using fluorescent lighting. "Times Endless Closures" reads like a 2nd variation of "Endings as Beginnings". Every moment is a chance to begin anew. True. But what does that mean? Do we leave behind what we were and are, to embrace what we could be? And what defines what we could be? Is a fulfilled life one that has more beginnings than endings? What about those parts of us that never end, they just morph into something different? Like a musical composition that has various developing movements that returns to the aria that first defined it. I guess the most important thing for anyone (not just creative types) is to press forward in all hope of becoming what we were meant to be. It gives (me) hope that we might not be our best yet. It's one of the things that keeps me going. Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it. Enjoyed your thoughts, Odinsan. Thanks for sharing. r
