Sometimes...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Solitude has its values, many worth the aloneness and its lessons, but sometimes…

Poem Artwork

 Sometimes…

When one was too young to know what was ahead,

And the moon’s night was silent,

 When the world was quiet,

And shadows deposited secrets with the stars,

Being alone hurt.

Today…

A heart, heavy with the weight of silence,

Yearns for a touch, a voice, a sign,

But finds only the echo of its own thoughts,

A solitary dance in the stillness.

Sometimes,

In a crowd, amidst the laughter,

Where faces blur, and voices merge,

The soul feels unseen, and unheard, sometimes.

A fleeting ache, a passing cloud

That drifts across the mind’s horizon

Reminding one of the spaces between,

The moments when connection fades,

It’s lonely, sometimes, But not always.

Yet…

In the depths of solitude,

There lies a quiet strength, a hidden light,

A chance to breathe, to reflect, to grow,

To find oneself in the silence,

And emerge, renewed, ready to embrace the world,

The people, the moments of togetherness,

And finally let go of when one was too young

To know what was ahead.

I like the dance you create here between the idea of loneliness and solitude. "It's lonely, sometimes" you write and indeed such a simple, profound statement that can touch the hearts of everyone. Who hasn't felt loneliness at one time or another. And yet, the other side of the coin: "A quiet strength, a hidden light . . . to find oneself in the silence. So well expressed.

Having been in both situations, an interesting contemplation of what both mean to you.

From the time I was just becoming active and exploring my twin brother was with me. And stayed close by my side even though he wanted to go to another college, but ended up coming with me to college. In a way, we both longed to go our separate ways and finally did.

I have spent many years alone and have grown to find it quite useful for thinking things through and guiding my life like Frank Sinatra… My Way. But it's been nice, too, to have someone lingering close by, not intruding too much, but being affectionate when affectionate is really a big help for loneliness.

These days my dreams are crowded with strangers. I really don't dream without others popping in and changing the course of my dream.

This is so beautiful- and as age haunts me all kinds of feelings seem to simmer like a brief whirlpool- but finally keep going.

Caught between a strong mind and a fragile heart. Life is ironic, and filled with opposites. You must experience sadness to know and appreciate what happiness is. You must experience noise to appreciate the beauty of silence. You must experience rejection to appreciate the importance of being accepted. And you must endure the absence of something important to value the presence of it. Ad infinitum. In my experiences, times of silence aren't always empty, or void of sound, they can also be a time when something hopeful (or even profound) is imparted. Let's hope what's ahead for you brings you health and happiness. Thanks for sharing. Peace. r

I like this! I can relate on so many levels. So poignant, especially

"The moments when connection fades,

It’s lonely, sometimes, But not always."

Not feeling lonely after reading and reflecting on your words.

Blessings, Odin.
