A Dry Heart...

Not accepting mistakes often takes a toll that knows no end until the lesson offered is embraced, pain and all. (Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 A Dry Heart Is...

Loins succumb to the distress,

The draught of the heart overwhelming.

What would it take to moisten
The tear ducts of your emotion,
To vibrate the timbre
Of your soul once more?

What would it take to lessen the pain
Of toxic memories,
Of words bearing the stench
Of dying hopes and dreams
That can still be heard?

Lest we forget,
Waiting for the sunrise,
Waiting for the quiet waters,
For the meandering brook
To float the drift of your heart into safe harbor
May only extend the longing of your soul.

Humbling ones focus,

Admitting one’s share of  accountability,

Often provides renewed moistening

Of the seemingly endless windstorm of blame.

So goes many a hurtful loss

Realizing a dry heart...

Is A Dead Heart

Images of a cold heart, a black heart, a tender heart comes to mind, but the dry heart, one that most have also experienced as well from others and within oneself. Your final stanza sums it up.

Wow! I especially loved reading

"Humbling ones focus,

Admitting one’s share of accountability,

Often provides renewed moistening

Of the seemingly endless windstorm of blame."

A powerful introspection to start the week. Thanks, Odin.

Accepting one's mistakes leads to forgiveness and freedom from the pain of remembrance. Thanks for reminding us.

Odin this is an important message in your poem. Until we acknowledge our part in causing our own pain and that of others, there will be no peaceful harbor. A brilliant poem.
