One's Real Home

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

To look around one can’t help but wonder when, if ever, will humans stay thoroughly informed and evolve to an appreciation that one’s brain is never completely asleep. “Historically, sleep was thought to be a passive state. However, sleep is now known to be a dynamic process and our brains are active during sleep.” – National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke-National Institutes of health. Poem Artwork

  One’s Real Home

The sun rises
like any other day
except...

Today's awakening erupts

Innate calendars run asunder
you're finally free
no more corralling of instinct
no more downside to curiosity
no more programs to die by

Infinity calls

Shackles fall free
unhappiness exits
inner flames cleanse bodily disease
smoke and cloud transport molecules of ecstasy
to form anew

You run
then spring
then...

Catching the first breeze to nowhere
to everywhere
to schedules unknown
to existence sans time
where chance be not tabled
worth be not an issue
day and night be one
converging all that was
to all that is
or will ever be

The eyes of consciousness need a rest

and so

beneath closed eyes

 one’s clever nocturnal state reveals
one’s real home

Your poem reads like an attempt to unveil some of life's mysteries. We are bounded by the continuum of time, but as you say "infinity calls," and what an echo it is, enticing us and drawing us in. Your ending resonate true, the real home does lie within, "behind closed eyes".
