Kingship
Voices once free
Now in shadows, they quietly whisper
As harbingers of kingship rise up,
Shadowed footsteps tread lightly
Through the corridors of power
Compassion…
Once a principle of sentient life,
Now a mere trickle of its once flowing river,
Consumed by the desert of indifference.
Love…
Rapidly becoming extinct,
A ghost of what it once was.
Kindness…
Withheld,
Unknown,
A relic aging in the depths of sand-covered time.
Grace…
Yesterday’s gentle touch of the heart,
Now a vanishing dream,
Replaced by the anvil fist of authority,
Barb-wrapping hearts,
Chaining logic,
All in the name of order,
In the guise of control.
Yes…
Here are the harbingers of kingship rule,
Embracing a crown heavy of fear’s weight,
A throne built atop the ashen cost of freedom.
Yet…
In the darkest night,
A spark stands ready
To re-ignite the flame of hope,
Pushing forward the yearning to be free.
For even in the murky shadows of tyranny,
The human spirit accepts not defeat.
Any dissenters in the town square will be beheaded. But a kinder move will be to have them banished from the realm if they can't prove they belong here.
