Words Experienced as...

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

There are some who dread the years ahead, while as writers, time seems to bring as its reward: experienced words finally arriving. Then, for still others, a poem or two a day becomes possible.

Poem Artwork

 Words Experienced as…

Moments alone in candlelit darkness

Removed from day’s imitation

Invites quiet as comfort

Closing one’s eyes

Reveals childhood playgrounds

Where companions shared Alone

Telling of secrets

Once stories filling idle time

While cocooned in tree-house intrigue

Such memories

Like under-rock-secrets

Found in shadowy woods

Forever remain as straying-off-trail discoveries

One’s finish line for life’s stormy relay

A cross-country run through time

Finally becoming the dial-face in the sky

For some

Time’s aspect bears not a father’s face

Nor the big and little hands of a mother

Once, gently nudging hours along

Instead

Paternal time now relaxes

 Daliesque

All names eventually merge

As a lamina among leaves

Embraced by the wind

Where remembrance flickers

Like one’s book of candles

Timeless pages once read by their own burning

Now

At last

Finally

Peacefully

Alone

With experienced words alive.

It is said that everything has already been written. Taking those words, in the future, AI will write the best poems, stories and novels. Perhaps, produce the best research from literature, if not from physical experimentation.

Is that what people fear? Like you wrote, I can easily turn out two poems a day. Instead, I take a more leisurely course of one poem a week… largely because I post them both here and on my website so they have a presence on the Internet rather than on some old musty paper found in some future storage room or attic – never to be read again before recycled or burned.

Odin, this is a brilliant poem. I felt it in the core of my being. I won't forget this one. Excellence as always.
