Quiet Trembling

Most of us have a memory of losing a loved one. Reflecting on such a moment brings for many of us a shiver. (Image by Odin AI)

 Quiet Trembling

There are vibrations
that know not sound,
rippling as they do through the marrow of the world.

An argument…

sharp and jagged,
splits the air like a rod of lightning,
its echo lingering in the chest,
a personal storm not easily forgotten.

Prayer...

so too does the hush of blessings

resonate around the heart,
hands reverent,

eyes closed,
a stillness that hums
with the weight of hope.

Compassion…

Knows little of hesitation

as the stranger lifts another unknown from the rubble,
not for glory,
but because something ancient in the blood says:

“you are me.”

Petals of a daisy…

shimmer as a loving child shares without knowing why.

A mother…

 forgives without needing reason,
for she understands that love,
genuine,

 unguarded,
moves like a current through the unseen.

Even hate…
with its heavy sadness,
vibrates a sorrowful thrum
that bruises the soul
of both giver and receiver.

Nature listens...

The wind,

gentle as a sleeping newborn’s breath,
moves through trees like a whispered truth.

Even in a storm…

there is a rhythm,
a pulse beneath the chaos

 that beckons trust and communicates:

 I will return to calm.

Mountains…

do not shout,
but speak in the slow language of time.

Rivers…

 do not argue,
but shape the world
with persistence.

A final breath…

And when a loved one exhales
for the last time,
that breath,
barely a sound,
becomes the loudest vibration
a loved one will ever know.

Such is…

A conclusive resonance entering us,
settling in the hollows

 Refusing to ever be silent.

Yes…

We carry life’s resonances in our being,
in our choices,
in the way we reach for one another
without knowing why,

letting love merely express

its smiling self.

ah, a complete list of the silent forces that shape and echo through human experience. One of my many favorite lines: "The wind, gentle as a sleeping newborn's breath, moves through the trees like a whispered truth." Each of these mini-meditations spot on in depicting these various moments of conflict, prayer, compassion, maternal love and even hate. Such a remarkable poem.

Our losses shape us more than we will ever know and your thorough description of the ways we lose beckons us to read the message and change appropriately. Understanding why.
