Taming Earth’s Wildness
I. Presence
Presence is the way a cup warms your palm
before thought names it cup.
It is the hiss of rain leaning into dust,
the breath arriving without announcement.
Tranquility is this unedited moment—
a shutter opening, not to capture,
but to allow the whole light through.
II. Compassion
Compassion moves like a river that does not argue with stones;
it learns their shapes by touching them.
Awareness is the fox pausing at the treeline,
muscles still, eyes bright,
holding hunger and caution in the same body.
When faced with human noise, metal, ambition, grief,
Tranquility does not recoil; it listens until the clamor
reveals its softer underside.
III. Awareness
Before mountains, awareness stands barefoot; before storms, it bows.
It feels the thrum of city traffic like weather systems of longing.
At night, looking into the cold geometry of stars,
Tranquility does not demand answers from the dark.
It accepts the future as open sea,
navigation by attention alone,
trusting the vessel because it is here, floating now.
IV. Tranquility’s shared gift
Many live this way without a name for it:
the mechanic aligning an engine by feel,
the nurse adjusting a pillow at dawn,
because tranquility needs no label to function.
Its final offering is simple:
to let another stand as they are,
and to believe, even quietly,
that tomorrow can be met with open hands,
Embracing more of tranquiliity’s companions:
awareness, compassion and the harmony of presence.
We have terra formed much of the North American continent into the gentler landscape of Europe.
Thereby, changing its ability to feed its ecosystem. Now it feeds us, and the greedy. Until we are gone.
