Who Will Remember

Who will remember him,
Who will care,
Who will speak his name,
Who will weep upon his death,
Acknowledge his duty,
His pride for Country,
Who will speak his name?

His eyes while blurred by age,
see plainly a truthful view,
His legs while weakened from battle,
stands firm for the Red, White and Blue

With hands that once gripped a rifle,
and offered solice to a Brother's fears-
Now trembles with pain and discomfort,
still wipes his memory's tears

His ears they hear the song,
behind the cries of a dying man-
Bugles and drums, on a raging wind-
taking him back, to that distant land

His face outlined by life's worries,
his lips speak their names-
Each one sketched upon his soul-
and their sacrifices, proclaimed

He remembers them yesterday, today,
and tomorrow as well,
And he'll stand tall, gladly and proud,
in memory of all that fell

But who will remember him,
Who will be left to care,
Who will stand and speak his name,
Who will weep upon his death,
Who will acknowledge his call of duty,
and the pride he had for Country-
Who will stand for the Red, White and Blue,
Who will remember to speak his name?

As a WWII non-combat soldier and airman,I will remember. Our Gang is slowly and surely being cut down by the old age foe, which none of us know how to best. Your words reassure that there are younger ones whose love and respect for those who served, will keep our country on the right path. Thank you for this one. - Bill

He will be remembered by those who care . . . his family and loved ones . . . and a grateful nation of patriots . . . the rest, the non-patriots matter not. Thanks for understanding that this old guy are going through my mid-life crises twenty-five years late. LOL

As you already know, I can never forget the ones who are responsible for my ability to live my life in a country that embraces freedom. This is an absolutely gorgeous poem, Lisa, and one that everyone should read over and over until they understand that the price for freedom is high and that we owe all that we have to those who put their lives on the line to defend it. Another keeper. My library looks a lot like you, Lisa, as I have so many of your beautiful gems gracing it.
Take care,
Sherry

How apropos with Memorial Day coming soon. We should remember each name, whether it be by soldier, sailor, marine, air-corp, or whatever - we owe so much to each one now and in the past.

A beautiful remembrance and reminder, Lisa.

Lisa, I love it when you write on this topic, because the passion of your heart is right there on every line. My father was career military, retired now, and both of my grandfathers served in the Army. I think it's most important that we support those who serve whether or not we may agree with the political rationale for involvement in any certain war or engagement. Thanks again for this, Dawn

I will! Even though I don't know a single soldier I keep yellow ribbons tied around every tree in my local park. This has been my way of letting all those that protect us know I really do respect and care for them. No one in my real life knows that I do this, it has been my private tribute to the man that you write about today.
Love and Peace,
Rebecca

Lisa you never fail to arouse the spirit of our service men and women
when you write so eloquently to uplift them! You have a true heart for them and this country, which would make a different world if everyone felt your compassion. Brava, on another great poem!

Love,
Eileen

This is a stark reminder there just is not enough we can do.
Many deserve more than they will ever know and ever get.
But our caring matters.
Beautiful tribute.

This is a wonderful tribute to a soldier and as long as their are those like yourself around he will live on and on in your words. My Dad was also a WW II soldier with the Canadain army who liberated Holland and I will always be proud of him.

I believe your love of country is some of your best poetry, perhaps because my father (now 84) fought in WWII and he fits your description to a T.
