Time Marches On

Time marches on through the pierced
eye of the soldier,
A one way portal with visions that
never fade-
No cosmetic romance; No gated safety;
Only pure truth behind sacrifices
made

Another soldier dies;
Another Mother cries;
A grief stricken wife reaches through
the darkness-
Time marches on down a one way street,
and another fatherless child, sighs

Politicians throw-up on the polished floor,
scavenging and scraping their plates-
Promising lies; Choking on honesty;
using heroes for greed and bait

Time marches on, and a soldier
fills his hand,
with the weapon of the fat man's choice-
Then another soldier dies;
and another Mother cries;
and the child is left without voice

War drums beat; And time marches on,
Once again down a one way street-
Man grits his teeth; Rivers flow red;
through the portals of no retreat

Death marches on through the pages
of history,
In tune with a Mother's cries-
The bugle whines; The child stands silent;
every time a soldier dies

A powerful take on a theme that many a widow and fatherless child has had to tackle, throughout the centuries. --Joe :-)

"Time Marches On"... Poetry´s compliance is "Time Marches On".

The closing lines flash on this jewel named, "Time Marches On".
... "The child stands silent;/every time a soldier dies."

Amazing is your ability to blend stark with silence, trudging with tip-toe. Every emotion takes its turn in the reading of this: anger, compassion, admiration, hopelessness, and finally, the sense that we must, indeed, all be joined as humans in the face of such inhumanity. Even your lettering is quiet. Though the war is everywhere we look, this poem found a place not yet embedded, Lisa, and it took root.

This is incredibly beautiful/sad. katy xox

You have pointed out so clearly how the politician and the soldier are not related other than through the battle. A soldier digs into the dirt and the politician digs into his slab of prime rib. Only the people relate to the soldier as he is one of them, when he dies we weep and we breathe in the wail of a mother and a wife who's lives have been changed forever. We ache for the child who will only know that his father was brave, as the politicians continue to play upon the chessboard sacrificing the faceless soldiers for the protection of the realm. Blessed are we by every drop of blood that has been shed that we might live in freedom, but let us never forget that the Soldier is "Brave" that we and his children may live in the Land of The "Free". This is his precious gift to us; I pray that we continue to guard it. Wonderful and emotional write, Lisa. This punched me hard and knocked the breath out of me. This is EXCELLENT, which comes as no surprise to me since excellence is what I find with each visit to your den. You never cease to amaze me, Lisa. A++++ Thank you for remembering their sacrifice.
Take care,
Sherry

This is a truly realistic look at what the effects of war do to the human race. It is sinful that in this day and age with all the scientific, industrial, mechanical, medical and other forums of advancement that we still cannot come up with a way to stop the mass murder of war. Great write Lisa and I'm with you all the way on this one.

Lisa,

Can hardly review for the tears in my eyes and the lump in my thoat--this would make one hell of a song. Structure, meter, rhyme powerfully present and accounted for--thank you. As a veteran, I salute you for your powerful rememberance to our men and women in uniform, the sacrifices made--by the soldier and their family.

(((((HUGS))))) and love, Karla.

DEFINATELY a keeper.

As a Vietnam Veteran, I know how war marches on. But it seems more and more we are sending boys and girls to fight, let US honor them by making them adults as men and women, fighting for our country. I pray that the blood that give to our defense will be honored in the equality of all Americans. I pray that are soldiers will soon be home in the peace of respect.

Very, very good. Yes, time marches on but don't it seem like it is marching in place when we never go forward passed the killings.

Oh, Lisa! How well the story is told in this poem. I cry each time a new life/death is honored on TV...Beautiful remembrance for our brave men and women.

Reminds me of my poem "On War."
The frustration for us takes a toll. Just knowing people are paying with their lives, and for what?
