Fall -n- Splendor

Watching you go; Having to say
goodbye-
Reaching for every sacred moment;
I smile, while looking back-
Remembering your precious birth-
Reliving it every year; As I will
again-
Fall -n- splendor; Spring revives;
Time waits for no one; As
death arrives

When the frost bruises the tender
maple-
Turning it's shade to an empty
hand-
Bold red dresses; Fall about it's
feet-
Leaving it naked before the eye of man

Then comes a saddening thought-
Where did all the butterflies
go?
With their brilliant colors; And
glorious wings of beauty-
Is that something we don't really
know?

In my palm I place the Queen's
last petal-
Her faded glory; Her time has come-
Velvet softness; Crumbles to dust-
Oh it's a bitter parting; a
sentence, unjust

Fall -n- splendor, on brutal winds-
Knocking; Beating down
old winter's door-
His face cracked and dry; He answers
with a chill-
In a howling breath; He
marks the score

So to watch you go; Over and
over again-
I know time waits for nothing;
I've come to realize-
But I never turn away; Until I hear-
The last call of Summer-
in a whisper of goodbyes

I hardly know where to start, Lisa. This spoke to me on several levels - of the season's turn, of course, and of the letting go required in primary relationships, particularly parent-child. And there is something deeper I cannot begin to articulate. Dawn

This is beautiful and haunting at the same time. "Turning it's shade to an empty hand-" This line is brilliant. It's the way I see winter. But the seasons are something we can't avoid, as you so eloquently said.

Excellent weave, Lisa. A beauty to remind how the seasons do the same for the folks they enfold.
Best regards,

This is knock-my-socks-off, great poetry, Lisa. The verses meander from season to person to season seamlessly. You incorporate the beauty of Autumn along with the drying and aging death of the season. Here, we seem to have more rain in Autumn than in other seasons yet Mother Nature is still the director, and commands the leaves to turn and fall to the ground forming a blanket, against the Winter's snow, for the seeds that promise us rebirth in the Spring. What a wonderfully perfect and magical plan the seasons are. This is lovely, Lisa, and a keeper for sure.

Take care,

Sherry
