Souls and Timeless Wonders

On a lonely trail traveled;
another milestone passed-
Cold winds through bare trees;
long shadows now cast

Rain clouds gather 'round me;
clear skies gone away-
'Tis a rough and brutal season;
an expense for life to pay

Bed sores and saddle sores;
both mark my skin with pain-
Choices of youth haunt willingly;
but wisdom I have gained

While beauty faded quickly;
left me empty without a trace-
I felt the dew of timeless wonders;
fall gently 'pon my face

I search now for a place of solace;
a softness to rest my head-
Nourishment for my soul's enjoyment;
and reason for tears I shed

I need the howling in life to quiet;
the rushing waters to still their flow-
I yearn for my heart to hear whispers;
from lips where passion grows

In this place where poetry breaths;
I'll lay at rest on the shores of truth-
Gather shells from milestones passed;
on the essence of a tendered youth
