The Lie You Crave

From my heart; I see you
as the babe in which I birthed-
From my eye; I see you
as the addiction, in which you've
become girthed

As the blade went slicing through;
Did you once think of her?
Did your daughters sweet face;
cause even the slightest stir?

You say nobody loves you;
well; that's not exactly true -
There's a needle; and Dealer; and
junkie down every road-
and the end is always justifiable;
when one has to pay their dues

Next time that poison filled hollow fang;
slides so passionately in your arm-
I want you to know those demons enslave-
So go ahead and draw back; Breath deep
one more time-
then tell yourself you'll be fine;
ain't that the lie you truly crave?

When it all comes crashing down;
just like you and I both know it will-
While your hands are shaking and your
insides are quaking; And your backbone
throbs with pain-
Sit again in the dark rubbing those arms;
Feel the bite and sting
and ache of addiction-
Throw yourself against the wall; Bang
your exploding head-
then tell yourself that same 'ol lie-
while the demon eats away your vein

The rule is: A junkie only loves their junk and they will betray all else to get it. I have known enough of them to know that this is the truth. It just doesn't get anymore frightening than watching your children drift into such a dark and dangerous life. Watching them not care about their children, their family or life in general. The only thing keeping them alive is the quest for another bag. Such a sad story, but one that is far too common in America. This poem slammed me up along the side of the head and left me numb and aching, knowing that nothing any of us can say or do will ever cause them to change; though they do know how to lay the guilt-trip on us, don't they? Heartbreaking write, Lisa.
Take care,
Sherry

Lisa, that's about as powerful an incentive to quit that I've read! Yet I know there is only one way to quit any addiction. Bottom line is we have to want to. Can we find the key to make someone want to bad enough? that is the sixty four dollar question.Fantastic poem. I'll keep the situation in prayer.

Love,
Eileen

This one cuts to the heart and bone of the whole drug abuse culture and looks honestly at the pain it causes all.
