Hollow Hearts

This is not pretty; But sometimes that's the face of truth.
You still have time to turn back if you don't think you can take it.

Hollow Hearts

I've seen where you've trampled; Your
marked pathways to hell-
Your jagged lines; Your victim's shelled
minds; The hollow eyes left behind
to decay-
You hold them hostage on a one-way trip;
Sucking them dry to the bone-
Vampirish bites as the demon's fangs rip;
stranded in hell all alone; Even death
would seem a better
way

His hands they shake while the pains bite
through his soul; His eyes can't; Won't focus
on anything except his next fix-
Flared nostrils cry out; He's a dirty whore;
F***in' the razor sharp edge of insanity's
drug induced tricks-
They've held him and coddled him; Fingered
his brain; Watched him float in a
tube full of hate-
His complexion gray and clammy; Future looks
the same; Time is running out and
there's no reason to
wait

A spoon full of meth; Seed of Satan;
Sperm off the demon's tongue-
Gouging; Digging; Stabbing and
screaming; 'Til there was no breath
in his lungs-
His eyes rolled back to meet the rush; And the
explosion of death's mighty grip-
He couldn't escape; He wouldn't try;
They say his Mother wept; As she kissed
her Son's blue lips

She's seen where you've trampled; Your
marked pathways to hell-
Your jagged lines; Your victim's shelled
minds; And the hollowed hearts you've
left behind

Stark. Vivid. Painful write. Powerfully expressed. I agree with Michelle Mills--an attention grabber, a necessary one. I thank you.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Right to the jugular with this powerful write. Alcoholism ranks up there with this terrible addiction that destroys body, mind, and soul. Hope it helps someone out there. Splendid write Lisa.

It is a long and twisted road that leads to this place of finality. I think it is an abusive slap to those who love them that they too should have to pay witness to the personal destruction of the "User". No mother birthed her children to have them live a life of disrespect of self and of those who have loved and nurtured them. A hollow heart, yes, it is indeed that, for in the heart of those who love the Addicted, the feeling of loss has long stood and the tears that could be cried have long been cried out and their love, tarnished by disrespect and slow suicide. Where the User is concerned, it is only them and the drug and there is no one or nothing importent enough to get between those two things. Parents and those who love the addicted, have such hope early on, that this might just be a phase or that dumping them into a rehab-facility might turn them around...sadly, the choice always is one of the addicted and not of those who wish to enforce their will upon them. Unfortunately, we cannot cut the cord until we kiss those blue lips goodbye and know that their suffering, and our own, has finally come to rest. Only then can the enlightened heart reflect upon the times when they had hope for their child/sibling/parent/spouse and when their own life wasn't torn by pain and anguish. Though the User thinks that it is their personal life choice and that they have the right to do whatever they wish and abuse those who love them in any way that they deem necessary to protect their addiction, it is in fact not the truth. They have no right to put those who love them through such anguish, for those "not the user" die a thousand deaths before the User dies once. Powerful and intense, this poem sounds like a moment of purging for the heart of those who have loved these troubled and addicted souls. Excellent pen, Lisa!
Take care,
Sherry
