Half-Step
Peace.
A moment in time when the thunder stops;
and the battle halts, maybe only for that very second-
It’s a breath that only warriors can breath;
A rest, only they can rest-
A strength only they can muster, and a tear only
they have the right to cry
For each of them know, the next step forward,
will find them right back in the war-
Right back where they were; Just thirty seconds before.
A place where time has no hands; No sound to
inundate its worthiness-
It has become yesterday, today and forever, all within
the same melting frame.
There’s no filters on what they see and feel; There’s only
raw pain and flesh-
They aren’t angry; Oh but how they’d like to be-
Just one more emotion, added to the mix
Words inadequate; Conversations stand quietly aside,
The look on their faces, and the tiredness in their eyes,
It tells so much more; So much more
They began to search for that half-step to peace,
the calm before the storm; and the drawstring of strength
only they can pull; It’s the sweet smell in memories
of home
Peace.
A moment in time when the thunder stops;
and the battle halts, maybe only for that very second-
It’s a breath only warriors can breath;
A rest only they can rest-
Strength only they can muster, and a tear only they
have the right to cry
