An Old Beat Up World

Half; maybe more, of a lifetime gone,
funny; even odd, one might say- That
it’s taken ‘til now for me to notice how
clear and blue a clear blue sky really is-
or, how imperfect a perfect day actually might be-
Although the children didn’t phone-
The robins still sang their morning songs-
The mailman didn’t deliver notices of great wealth-
but the sun that shines on me, is still just as warm-
Prince Charming didn’t and probably never will, come

Gallantly riding in on his white steed-
but, that’s okay, for I remembered all those wonderful years
I had with my own real Prince Charming- and he rode an
old beat up Ford,
The scales claims I didn’t lose a pound- Maybe they are
right, maybe they aren’t- Either way is fine with me- For
that extra slice of chocolate silk ribbon pie, was worth it all-
The calendar in the front hallway still marks the birth date of my
childhood best friend-
I’m still fond of skipping stones, kicking cans, picking wild
berries, and eating them straight from the vine-
Perfection. Oh yes, wasn’t that what it was when you took the
velvet petal of the rose, and rubbed it against my cheek? It was
tenderness extraordinaire- It was that clear blue sky; Just as
clear today as it ever was-

Life is what it is and it is our attitude that makes it a beat-up world or an upbeat one. Perfection surrounds us, even amid the imperfection, and life HAS truly been worth living. I now appreciate those things that I have no hand in, much more than I did in the past when I was so busy making my way that I failed to see the beauty in the starry night. Today I revel in the beauty of all creation...the perfection of an infant's toes and that of a budding rose...yes, life is good and we are not only getting older, we are getting better at understanding how fortunate we are and have always been. I love this beauty of a write, Lisa. I am going to keep it and whenever I feel like life has smacked me with a left hook, read it to regain my center.
Take care,
Sherry

I agree, circumstance doesn't have a lot to do with focus. It's always better to search for the good! I've found that what is perfectly understandable now was once something that was lost in idle grasping.

Something about going through that inevitable doorway - the old age of youth and the youth of old age - that cleans the scales from the senses.

Good write

Lisa,

O, how I've missed you! And your beautifully moving verse; this is no exception--lovely emotive prose. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Hope you have gotten the rain you needed, but not too much.
