Shuga, 1+1
Now Bobby Joe sits on death row,
in a rack that darkness haunts-
But every night his mind goes back-
to all those tease and taunts
He feels her breath there on his cheek,
her whispers in his ear-
Sweet Cherrie’s fingers in his hair,
her body pressing near
The books she dropped they are his gavel,
her eyes his sentence long-
Her voice; Her smell; Her sweet, sweet smile,
‘tis a lonely siren’s song
His hearts in rhythm with every breath,
when will he take that walk?
Each time the guards pass by his cell,
they laugh and mention, Hell
What they don’t know is
Bobby’s there-
That place they’re calling Hell-
He’s been there ever since the night-
The night his Sweetheart fell
Now Bobby knows his time is close,
he’s heard them taking bets-
On when he’s asked, if he’ll just say,
“I have no regrets”
It’s been told as he walked that hall,
that a tear formed in his eye-
He smiled and called out Cherrie’s name,
then told his Papa bye
While Cherrie Lynn danced Heaven’s halls,
its Bobby she wants most of all-
She drops her wings there at his feet-
Calls him Dumplin’ and Shuga Sweet

I just read the set up for this Shuga (1-2) and had tremendous chills. Now the final walk for Bobby does the same. Who can say he's on death row by mistake? Like an old fifties/sixties song. Well written pieces both. Thanks.
