Seeing Beyond the Frustration

This is a true poem about a member at our program that I try and help.

She gets frustrated and irritable

She has a hard time expressing her thoughts and feelings

At times she doesn't seem to be able

to give a clear and complete sentence

She uses a walker

and at times seems to be mad at the world

Yet, deep inside she has this sweetness

and care for people

At times she is as clear

as a bell for a minute

After I took her home

tonight she was talking

to herself in a very frustrated tone

I interupted her frustration and said

Maxine, I love you

She looked straight at me

and said I love you to

I really do

Oh, for those wonderful

moments of breaking through

her frustration and voices!

We had a lady once at our workplace, she was on a wheelchair; but she was a computer genius. Every time our computer breaks down she always fixed it for us. But like this lady in your poem, she too, appeared to be pre-occupied with her own thoughts in many instances, and sometimes, people who were mean rushed her to do her work, and complained about her when she took longer time in fixing something.

Some people who are mean can make life hell for people with disability. I'm glad you have shown kindness to this lady. Good for you!!!

Glad you are there for Maxine; she needs you to be there for her, especially when she's feeling vulnerable. You are a great friend, Cindy! Well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :)
