This is great! can hear my dad's huffs too. a litttle tapping of the shoe there too. Good for you to think that quickly Stand up for yourself and make sure you get two.

I used to have the same thing with my dad each shopping night, though mine was about 45 rpm records...till one night he said no as I was bad, so I said I was going home, he said go ahead and I did, 12 miles of hitch hiking at about 11 years old...he was so worried he had the cops out looking for me...LOL (served him right, he never said now to a record again, in fact I starting to get albums...;) thanks for the memories, Ed & Rufuz
How wonderful, Daniel, the author's way of choosing the comic books! I think that says a lot about perspectives, how they may be formed, sometimes by finding a solution to a problem, here, the boy cannot choose, the impatient father waiting, the boy feeling this, and, knowing he would get two comics, so, not minding if the rack landed on an empty spot, it prolonged the anticiption, and gave rise to the boy's regard for self by 'standing up to' the father in a way that taught both. It makes me smile.
I believe you did another piece, a year or twoso, ago, on comic books, or maybe it was Sunday comic strips. You've hit on one of my biggest joys of childhood, being able to read and see wonderful worlds which sparked imagination and love of reading through the art of comics and thier power to enthrall all the senses. Beautiful piece.
Very interesting and different write. I like it. Comic books and spending hours deciding on the right one, put me in another world. Enjoyed the write.

Oh, how I understand this very dilemma in life, DannyMac! I love to have tons of choices, then, I take hours and hours, it's sometimes a relief if someone steps up and says "this one and this one... now you're done!" (grin)
You have captured that irrepressible child's voice, making this not only recognizable in my head, but vivid for my mind's eye. Here's a challenge for you, dear friend: Your dad VS My dad in a huffing contest! With the two of us in the mix, to start the huffing, it could go on for hours! hehe... We'll see who's got the 'huffiest' dad. I'm done now. I loved this one! katydid xox.
Oh yes!! Can understand this logic from years of having it practised on me!! Can also identify with the huffs of your Dad - sad to say, patience is not a virtue I possess, either. I fear that my years' of playing all-tolerating Earth Mother are just past their sell-by date! This is a cute cameo of the closeness of that parent/child relationship - but also of it's frustrations. Thankfully, love covers a multitude of shortcomings... LOL Kate xx
Dads were a bit impatient..but they loved us. He may not have been happy but he would never have left you standing their spinning the rack.
