you can't always rub
your eyes while driving
to work at 4am
liquid haloes around
city lights shoot
at you like angels
aiming for your soul
there may be a time
or two when you think
they've hit their mark
but that's only you
nodding
off at the wheel

i sense a dualism to this piece that makes me want to comment on what it seems to be rather than what it is at first glance. maybe they did hit their mark... why explain it all away? if you can feel the magic, then it has to be there.

Aiming tired eyes at
roads going by liquifies
any other light seen, in a life.
Nodding off brings death, I know, a twin of a friend did just such, and drove into a cliff in Idaho, or Washington or, somewhere just so.
The metaphor of rubbing eyes, I hope, has been augmented by someone who cares, in the sense of revitalization. ... Yeah, me!
Or, maybe we will see...
