Oh, if only just once
I could touch Your face.
Only then could I win life's race.
And over the highest mountains I'd leap,
never again to weep.
Alas, I am pitiful dust, of sins not a few,
Having time and again
terribly offended You.
Glory of glories!
Sweet Jesus touched MY face~
gently, lovingly, full of grace.
Then I wept~
when He showed me a tomb
in which He'd slept.
I wailed when he offered
a nail scarred hand
and revealed marks of a thorny band.
Oh! And how I cried
at sight of His wounded side;
His blood for ME taking that
mountainous leap
with MY tears tracing His cheek.
Ah, Lord, You created the perfect man.
And, I so want to be like as He~
if I can.
Then again He softly touched me,
setting this caged heart free.
And I flew,
for then it was that I knew~
to be like Him I could! I could!
But only in Him I would.
I WOULD!
~~and I am
Many might wonder why I would use what most think of as a mythical creature with this poem about Christ. The Unicorn is mentioned at least nine times in the AKJV Old Testament: rendering a meaning 3-fold. It's singular horn denotes God's singularity of creation and power, while the Unicorn itself symbolizes His great gentleness yet indomitable spirit.
