Who Was That President?

It was asked of me,
"Who should the President be
of this our great nation?"
I considered with some trepidation
the men who had gone before
through the White House door;
yet, in each I found some flaws:
each month twenty-thousand new laws,
all of which we must learn and obey
or a big price we will pay.

I looked at those having served more recent,
some doing good things, even decent.
Still, I discovered more vexation
in unfair, heavy taxation:
a 25 to 50 per cent burden to each and all,
or Uncle Sam will come to call.
Then I remembered a leader before all these,
who asked very little and was pleased.
He warned: "Another will take the best you earn,
then turn away when you cry, unconcerned."

Oh, still the people sent Him on His way,
even though His government didn't make us over pay.
His taxation was a mere ten percent, a breeze:
because that tax was in a perpetual freeze.
Even better, His laws were easy to remember,
numbering only twelve from January to December.
That was it, nothing else did He require of us,
yet we put up such a nasty fuss.
Oh, that's right, He did asked us to accept His Son
in His place: but, even that didn't seem like fun.

"Who should be President," you asked?
Well, it seems all the others took us to task,
our hard earned living keeping them in high style:
causing all and sundry to rage at their guile.
"Who should be President?"
In what man and in which incident
was one found so great as He who first came?
He who made life simple... what's His name?
The best was the government of Elohim:
God, the Holy Spirit, and Christ will redeem.
