Of Verses, Boughs, and Thee
The Persian poet told us
Of the pleasures to be found
In verses, trees, bread and wine
In a setting on the ground.
Ingredients that please us
Stir the senses and the soul
Lift the veil of mental anguish
Caress us and console.
At harmony with Nature
In the coolness of the grass
Resplendent in silken garments
With time for other things to pass.
A cup of wine a mandolin
Gentle breezes cool the day
Drink to me only with thine eyes
Another bard was wont to say.
Wrapped in beauty guile and wonder
A scene befitting Heaven’s door
Complete with passion love and Thee
How could Paradise be more?
