A Mind Odyssey
By some accounts
My most productive years
Post doctoral to pre-demential
Have come and gone
I’ve done what I had to do
Said what I had to say
And now
The reckoning…
My back is scarred
From stabbings
My throat is dry
From thirst
My brain no longer
Speaks to me
And lust is a thing
That used to be
Well, almost.
Envied pitied
Tried and censured
Forgotten disgraced
And never once
Listened to.
I’ve strutted and fretted
My hour upon the stage
Only to be heard
No more.
And now I lift
My mighty pen
And speak to
The ages.
It is my last chance
To inspire and
To forgive myself
For my audience is
My future
Who get to read
My past.
It seems to be all seasonal. And I do relate to the scars and stabbings. I've got my share. I'm glad someone has a 'mighty pen'. Mine is beginning to feel more and more like a piece of splintering whalebone. Enjoyed.
I often wonder who will read my writings once I pass. I know one thing, I loved writing and going back and reading the short stories and saying to myself, did I really write that? I am so happy the gift has been given to you and others here on authorsden so that we can encourage one another to never give up and press on with what we like to do.

poem...sojourn experience of your wandering mind...from
one set of beliefs to another...hidden agendas of others
subtly shaping your life...trying to reconcile the inner-
narrative-voice with "common sense"...evolved...became
successful...
Now...with the "history"..."envied-pitied-tried-censured-
forgotten"...behind you...time to carve the "present writer"
quest...As then...but with opened-mind...may your pilgrimage
continue and be full of surprises and fun..."lift" your
"mighty pen and speak to the Ages"...for your "audience
is your future...who get to read your past"...

Reading this, It left me spell bound . You remind me of the large and great banyan tree spreading there by the road side quietly staring at passers by who can't quite understand or imagine what all the tree has seen !
