Our existence is but a fleeting chapter in the grand nature of Earth's immense timeline.

Poem Artwork

The Earth Speaks

She moves in silence across time and space
Exuding love upon her face
Toward destinations far away
Logging millions of miles every day.

It’s too soon to say she’s home to us
We act like travelers in a rush
We pollute her air and trash her waters
Creating filth like uncaring squatters.

She cleans herself with rain and snow
With winds of change she lets us know
For certan she will be here tomorrow
As renters we’re here mostly on the borrow.

Fate is neither ours to shape nor to hold
Tomorrow is meant for the brave and the bold
Not impostors to a throne that isn’t there
So quit pretending like you really care.

Let the wind and the rain and the oceans’ tides
Carry us along for heart-felt rides
Across meadows and valleys with minds together
This lady can see us in all kinds of weather.

We must capture the wind, the tides, and our worldly cares
She has the time if we have the fare
Her words remind us in the most daunting way
Begin a clean journey now, or get blown away.

A chilling warning, if beautifully wrought. More people than those of us here on the Den should read this.

Well said. You've chosen a simple vocabulary to express the language and vernacular of the universe in all her ability to adapt. Now if only more would listen to the melodies of Nature that our once pristine environment still offers through the murky air, water, and attitude of its tenents. Enjoyed this immensely.

I like the mixed message in this poem. I hope those with locked minds can read with understanding. Great job!

The earth as a lady who speaks if we only listen to what she has to say. Beautifully rendered.
