Vermeer took a year
To decide his art’s subject
Before he finally knew it.
Pollock just frolicked,
Faced off with his canvas,
Grabbed a handful of paint and just threw it.
It takes a whole month
To memorize a song.
It takes just three minutes to sing it.
It seems so much simpler
To just get the gist
Then stand up on stage and just wing it.
The sculptor’s tough hands
Chisel figures of man
Which when finished are sanded and polished.
If his sculpture’s off track
He picks up his axe
And strikes it until it’s demolished.
Poets in their prime
Eschew conventions of rhyme.
They suffer through raptures sublime.
They consider amateurs slime
Guilty of literary crime.
And by now you can see what kind I’m.
Pretensions eh?
I had to laugh at the title capitalized
given the gist. I have often wondered ... if plants could
intellectualize, as humans, how they would deal
with their vast differences philosophically.
I do certainly agree with the first three lines
of your last stanza, being mostly in the category,
but I must admit that I have NEVER considered amateurs slime.
Especially since most poets, brilliant or mediocre, don't
get paid for what they create.
QUEER THINGS...THESE ARTISTS...ESPECIALLY POETS...WHY, EVEN WHEN THEY SAY NOTHING...THEY'VE SAID SOMETHING...QUEER THINGS...ARTISTS.
