An Italian Opera

Through the bedroom window
a gentle breeze blows.

Underneath my shirt
soft hands on my back
squeeze,
lifting the silt coated edge
from the day left behind.

Underhand fingernails
slide up my neck,
pulling and releasing
a lock of hair.

Saliva tipped effervescence,
becomes crystallized
on the wings
of humming birds
drawing nectar
from goosebumps.
An entity so natural
as red is to yellow,
blue is to black.

Dancing
with the curtain
in the breeze,
Spirits
drift through the window
touching, releasing,
moving around her.
Intensity glows
surrounding her.

She has reached the top
of the glass staircase
with one foot in heaven
and one foot keeping
the garden gate open.

I have stood strong
riveted steel mountains
weathering
beneath the graphite
of my inner sanctity.

Breaking down the man
in answer to the woman
she searches through me
like she would an old drawer.

Chills wrinkle,
weakening
the strongest parts
of my crumbling will.
Leaving me in awe
as it breaks
into pieces around me.

Legacy spills forth
in the mist of adornment.
She reaches to the child
inside of me.

With the last act
a sacrament unfolds.

Elation comes to a crash
with the orchestra’s
final movement
the players exhausted.
The hall has become
dark and quiet.

There beneath soft footlights
the tempo
has carried on
with a single beating heart
in the womb
of this woman in need.

there are various themes in this that catch me...that of the crystalized humming bird wings and that of the silencing of orchestra music....very nice depictions of carnal emotions released into a higher sphere of emotion. And so the Iron-man forges on...nice job! **Mari**

Well-written, though a tad bit melodramatic at times (i.e. the effervescent saliva).
