What I fail to see
is every bit a part of me
as empty as a turning drum

on the wheels of yellow taxi
that cruises the city streets
with eyes I can see

everything and everyone
but let me tell you
there is no heart in an empty drum

just take me to the palisades
let me listen near the shore
the ocean is a greater mind

and has weathered away the hands of time
cause everything I fail to see
is every bit a part of me

Everyone I ever knew
slips like noodles through the blue
from midnight in Manhattan

to the Hudson rivers trail of tears
is the darkest blue in the blackest black
and all the words I can not take back

Just take me to the palisades
so I can envy the salty sea
as empty as a turning drum
