The Fat Guy

I spoke to the fat guy this morning

and asked why he doesn't lose weight?

Oh, he was full of the usual excuses

said he'd been under the doctor of late,

And the tablets he takes for his illness

cause weight gain and problems like that,

it's just the side effect of his tablets

he swears that have made him so fat,

But he don't mention the sweet things at Christmas,

or the beer, of which he sometimes partakes,

no, to him it's all down to the tablets,

not the drink, the big meals and the cakes,

So people are sometimes unpleasant

taunt him and call him mean names,

but he never responds to their meanness,

because inside he believes he is to blame,

Though in fairness he has tried to diet,

without much success it would seem,

now some mock that he only has three meals a day,

with eighteen big snacks in between,

And I mock him the same as the others,

worse if the truth's to be told,

because I knew that man in his heyday,

before he grew so fat and old,

When he could run rings round anyone standing,

and hardly break into a sweat,

now his fitness regime's non existent,

he's a bone idle, physical wreck,

A disgrace to his wife and his family,

who seldom gets out of his chair,

a fat, bloated pig of a person,

that belongs in a circus somewhere.

Oh it's no secret what I think about him,

he's known it for many a year,

I tell him on every occasion,

whenever the fat guy appears,

I echo what others have told him

and ridicule him for his size,

while he sits in silence and listens,

with tears welling up in his eyes,

And I can see in his face what he's thinking,

that he's tired of this life of hard knocks,

he can't wait till this torment is over,

and they carry him out in a box,

But even then I can't help but to mention

how many they'll need on that day,

and they'd be better off using a folk-lift

when they carry the fat guy away,

What I'm saying's not new or original,

it's been said many times in the past,

to that old man that lives in my mirror,

the reflection in my looking glass.

When I see an overweight person...I see a human being suffering with emotional problems that manifest themselves in a complete lack of self-worth...so sad....Very well penned, Steve.

Interesting introspection. We are what we eat. Our physical fitness is dependent upon how fit we behave. Once we let ourselves go down that slippery path to obesity, it is hard to climb back up.

I think everyone that is suffering with obesity should be placed in a concentration camp for at least a year. They will be surprised what it does for their health after they are released and find that even eating a small meal will cause them to get sick. In the end they will find that they will live healthier (like Johðn McCain) and longer lives as a result.
