I woke up late this morning,
my pillow soaked with tears,
I thought I saw your shadow
but it quickly disappeared,
And I could have sworn I heard you sing
that song you always sung,
before the lord came for you
and my loneliness begun,
Oh I know that you were ready
because you'd suffered for so long,
but I could have sworn this morning
I heard you sing your favourite song,
And I know I felt your presence
in the bedroom whilst I slept,
and I'm sure I felt your fingers
brush away the tears I wept.
And I don't think I was dreaming
when I heard you call my name.
Oh God I wish that some how
I could bring you back again.
But I've sorted your posessions,
packed them up to go away,
it's taken three heartbreaking months
but's it's best all round they say,
Of course there's some things that I've had to keep,
with which I could not part,
like your silly plastic necklace
with it's rough cut piece of glass.
Oh I know it's just a trinklet
that meant nothing to you girl,
but to me it's worth my weight in gold,
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Because I remember when you found it,
in that Christmas cracker, and how you laughed,
as you tied it round your neck,
to take that Christmas photograph.
And it's not the trinklets value,
for it's just a rough cut piece of glass,
it's value is in the memory
of how it made you laugh,
At a time when you were suffering
from a pain without relief,
and all we had were doctors bills
and tear stained hankerchieves.
And we knew our time together
was growing shorter by the day,
and I lived in terror of the time
the lord took you away.
But now he has, and you are gone,
peacefully at rest,
leaving so much emptiness
here inside my breast.
For all I have is lonliness
and memories of the past,
and a silly plastic necklace,
with it's rough cut piece of glass.
Losing someone you love changes you. You immediately have to find a new reality. For the first time, I truly understand that statement. I home this is not about you. If it is, you have a kindred spirit. I have had to find some new realities for myself.
