Free Man

 

If my horse should break his stride,
bury my horse by my side, for we both have fought and died.
We have been over hill and dale,
we have fought the fighting trail.
We have fought battle after battle,
and I pray for one more day in the saddle.
But if fate should break our stride,
bury my friend by my side.

 

Lord I pray, for one more day as a free man, Amen

Freedom is a hard won thing. I hope you've found it. I had a dog that died a few years ago; still have her picture beside my computer. She, indeed, was a truly good friend.!

Daniel, I really enjoyed this poem. My dad and I used to do a lot of riding, and I know how much he used to care for his horses. You remind me a lot of him.
