Forgiveness has a fatal flaw—

Accepted then, forgotten now.

For when we’re clean, within the law,

Temptation breaks the fragile bough.

Again we soar, but ever down

On winds of shame to deep regret.

We fear the loss of Heaven’s crown;

We ask again, release of debt. 

But sinner know, the day will come

That you commit the final sin.

Who you are, the total sum,

Will weigh against whom you have been. 

And should your sin lie down with you

On thorns of death that hold you fast,

Your silent screams will not get through;

Your sinful ways have stopped at last.

So once forgiven, keep it so,

For true remorse will not reverse.

You’ll die serene; your soul will flow

Apart from those whose fate is worse.
