How Do We Differ?

Though we are all unique individuals, we are still very much the same. We need to remember to treat each other as we would want to be treated, because all we want in life is simply to be loved and accepted. Nothing more, nothing less.

How Do We Differ?

How do we differ, you and I?

We seem so much the same

Aside from the fact we don’t look alike

and we each have a different name.

Our hair is a different color

Some may have none at all

While some are fat and some are thin

And others are short or tall

Our skin may vary in color

we sound different when we speak

The smile appearing on each face

Is wondrously unique

Our religions somewhat differ

our beliefs like night and day

Some prefer to work real hard

While others prefer to play.

How do we differ, you and I?

Are we really world’s apart?

Maybe by viewing with only our eyes

but instead, compare with your heart.

Our bodies are flesh and quite fragile

a pool of emotions inside

That illustrates our true feelings

When we laugh, and sing and cry.

We all have a need for acceptance

To be loved just the way that we are

Too often our words and our actions

Can permanently create a scar.

We all are the same on the inside

We hurt when we’re filled with strife

The anger and hatred of fighting

Can easily cut like a knife.

God is the Father, of you and I

Siblings all are we

He died on the cross to show His love

Thus making each one of us free.

Take hold of His love and fill your heart

Show compassion and spread it around

A smile on the face of you and I

Is all we need for love to abound.

We really don’t differ, you and I

We simply just need to see

When I look at you on the inside

I’m simply finding me

Kathy, this is a very beautiful poem with a great message.Everybody should be treated with love and respect no matter who you are, where you come from, what race you are and how you look like. This world is like a big box of ice cream.Different flavors, but has the same delicious taste of the human spirit.I enjoy reading this poem.take care
