My father passed away on November 28, 2002 and I wrote this hearing my mother's heart.

Poem Artwork

Coming here wasn’t easy, but when the sun rose

 I remembered your smile, and

that's when

I knew that you were finally free.

Sometimes being free is being free to be from this world,

but this doesn’t mean that I won’t miss you.

Sometimes being free is leaving the one’s you love most.

The countless smiles, the years of laughter,

the tears of joy, and yes the love, all of these things I will

surely miss.

Sometimes being free is receiving a comfort that will

be everlasting because now when I look at your pain

endured here

then I understand that your comfort here was not what it truly

was, and to be truly free one must leave here and enter into a

new place where peace can be truly found with

comfort everlasting

and free.

No more pain, no more suffering, an all new,

brand new you

that awaited you

as you entered into this new place.

The all new,

brand new you

that’s not missing nothing here.

The all brand new you,

without pain.

The memories of the smile you left here,

I know it’s still there,

but the only thing different now

is that

this smile is all brand new

for the all brand new you.

For better or for worse,

in sickness and good health,

till death do us part,

I will truly miss you,

but sometimes being free is

going ahead of the one’s you love most.

I recently lost my father and I had to come to terms that he was no longer in pain. After reading this, I saw his death in a neww light! You did an excellent job! Keep it up!

Free indeed, Rosalyn!
I watched a documentary last night called Life after Life and it was sooooo exciting! Love and Death (whatever form it takes) are perhaps the most written about subjects at the Den and even today as I have read many works here, death comes across as being such a terribly, terribly sad and fearful injustice. FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN is a terrible thing, but death itself, (as portrayed in this documentary anyway) is almost an illusion as we know it and in actuality is more like the bursting of a crysalis....to MUCH better things. Dare I say, we shall have to wait and see!
Goodbye is, however, much harder.

To accept death with such truth is not often found. Free exemplifies faith and is beautifully written. You might want to read "Do You Not Know?" over at my A/D pages.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
