Snack on a Nap

I need a midnight snack

when the classroom walls

close in on me and

sleep falls nearer to me,

I call my fate with heavy eyelids a

snack on a nap...

a snack on a nap when the pages

fold in half, and

two pages make one

and one page

makes no sense as the words wave

and the timer dings,

waiting for me to obtain knowledge...

How can a sista learn

after craming the night before?

How can a sista know her worse nightmare

is getting to class on time

and when the grade "A" seems far

because that's exactly

what it is, too far,

so a "B" would be fine

and the settlement of

reality is settling for a "C"

and craming a prayer in on time...

Please, as thoughts unwind,

please let me not slide by with a "D"

and never know a "F" and

all I want for the ending semester

is to just pass this class...

So my snack on a nap is the

injustice I've done to my brain

and the reality is that I'll never

crame cause sliding by

and not knowing what

grade will do me fine

is the wait that I want to

miss the reality of ever knowing...

Now on the late nights,

I substract time to make time fit, and

I study like the norm and

I take my 8 hour snack on a nap...

When the sun rises and

the brain fills with positive knowledge,

uncramed is the knowledge that is powerful

enough to lead me to at least a "C+" average.

She Intrigues Me, Revelations Of Love by Jon Willey

If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
