As Time Marches On
See the hour glass, you know the one, it tracks our life with its grains of sand running slowly as we are born.
Our day times and night times all recorded and tracked for the unofficial record, a time card of sorts.
This is where we start our race, from our first footsteps until the final action, the sands keep running; they flow slowly as we enter this world trying to figure things out.
Onward and upward, well maybe not for everyone, the choices are there for all to take, the paths are different from one to another, but, the endings can be similar if we wish.
But, the sands in the hourglass seem to fall so freely, a little faster I think, just my imagination, I’ve been so busy you see.
I’ve learned to walk, now there are words to command and yesterday I had my first run, the world moved quickly as my pace increased.
People, places, and all of these new events to see, my day rolls on faster and faster, but, there is so much time, no need to worry it away.
Enjoy and embrace these brand new things, books and foods and places and things, so much, so wonderful, it makes my head spin.
Winters turn to summer, grey clouds, and then a warming sun, faster and faster the Ferris wheel spins.
Well excuse me but, do you see all of the sand that has spilled down, in my hourglass, it seemed to be much less, just a short time ago, oh well, no time, I’ve got to go.
The race is still running and I can’t lose my place, my sand keeps falling and spilling away, when will it stop or where will it end?
No time now, I’ve got children to raise, Christmas to birthdays, on to family holidays and so on and so on.
The winters grow colder and the summers get shorter, my strong leaping bounds have grown shorter with time, I now walk from one place to another.
Has anyone seen my hourglass, how much sand do I have left? Or is it better that I just turn my head?
I feel the bite from the wind that has shadowed me through out my life; I pull my collar up tighter to prevent that cold chill.
It’s been so many years since I first entered the race, the race of life, the one we were all forced to run.
My childhood, my younger years are all memories to me now, my children and family, the reason that drove me on, head first into the wind, regardless of the cost, how much sand did it all cost, how much time has been lost?
Now I am the old man who walks along the river, gazing at the ripples and the wind thru the trees. All that’s left is reflections and memories to guide these last days.
The smiles and laughter followed by the ever warming hugs, the fire within me, I guess it’s my pride and such, loves that had come and stayed short and long, I’ve tasted everything from life’s never ending buffet.
It’s time to sit, it’s been such a long grueling race, across the way I see my hourglass,
The one I misplaced some time ago, or did I just ignore it, because of the pace of my life?
I can’t help, but smile the sand all seems to have found the bottom, the bottom of my hourglass.
Oh there’s still some left, a little at least, how long will it last? I really don’t know, but I don’t think I am supposed to know any of this.
Just take one day at a time, good or bad, short or long, live the life we are given and don’t think of our sand.
It will be what it will be, so worry about living, worry about love. The rest will be just that and the sand will always run; the hourglass you see just never seems to stop.
As I said before, reflections and memories will take up the space. My trophy for running that long and difficult race?
For me, my prize was finding inner peace, so let the sands fall out to the bottom of my glass, I am prepared, and I am ready to see those last grains fall down
With all that has been said and done, I would run that race again; I would challenge that clock and again try to win.

Be always safe,
