A dark and lonely midnight sky o’er the blight of urban spire;

The brightness of the neon lights; the signs of strife, no force of life;

All meaning is in vanity or consequences plainly dire.

The cold concrete and murky street cry in melancholy grief;

The promise of the dawn to come; perception waxes deaf and dumb;

Where no affiliation’s safe and all exists for non-belief.

All the people are but drones that crowd around the sprawling stones;

Empty faces all around, with common ground and silent sound;

Nothing matters in this void; knowing no one, themselves not known.

Expansion couples with restraint, racing rats and ego games;

Creating mounds of wanton waste; futility and undue haste;

Identities consolidate and you no longer have a name.

The end of all cannot be far when such a place so dark can be;

Numbered and homogenized, assimilated, sanitized;

Humanity has been replaced for a minor service fee.

Filtered fabricated lies feed us through the giant eye;

Vicariously we exist, we don’t have life but get the gist;

Sitting in our little cells, we watch the pseudo-world go by.

Money talks and we all hear, it speaks into our very souls;

Massive market, voter trends, catastrophe that never ends;

How happily do I await when consequence receives its toll.

 Reviews of "City"

this remind me of one of those films set in the future when law and order has disappeared and anarchy rules, but it is how city life can be, the bits we try and ignore.....its dark and moody and I love it.
