Tale of a Tail

My spelling error jumped off the page

as I did a last read through.

I laughed at the mistyped word

and what it seemed to construe .

“We all have our divorce tails … “

my ill-fated sentence said in part --

of course I meant “tales” but

my mistake had a lesson to impart.

We sometimes wear our sadness,

our stories of remorse and regret

like baggage dragging behind us,

woe-filled and difficult to forget.

If we could but shed those tails,

leave them languishing in the dirt,

we would also leave behind us

so much heart-ache and hurt.

No longer hindered by our past,

no longer weighted with defeat,

we would walk taller, steadier

balanced on our own two feet.

A simple typo on the screen,

a mere Freudian slip of the key,

teaching me about tail-less tales

and living life to the nth degree!

Ah Leysa, good to see you posting again and with such a fresh outlook. Wisdom of a divorcee bringing back memories of what I too once went through and weathered even though at times I never thought I would.

Cute poem--the title caught my eye first--love the title. I make those Freudian slips sometimes--I think many do.

Cleverly concocted and sprinkled with wise counsel; thank you, Leysa. Love and best wishes to you,
