Keep looking beyond tomorrow…
temptation whispers in ill-humored fashion.
Sand sifts smoothly through the hourglass
half full, half empty at the birth of twilight
and an eerie notion stills my heart.
Keep looking beyond tomorrow…
temptation now drones my name.
But sand has drifted in errant ways.
My path has steepened; I labor to climb.
Wind’s shifted north, I’m facing south
and pushing forth one inch at a time.
Keep looking beyond tomorrow…
temptation calls its wretched wish,
though I can’t see one grain of sand
past the one on which I stand.
Doubts pushing and pulling with equal force,
one step forward two steps back
till silence roars; temptation no longer calls.
Sand sifts quickly through the hourglass
half empty, half full at the birth of twilight
and a black moon eclipses the sun.
Full of symbolism- yes, we all have to face a time in life where we are confronted with what we truely achieved, and the little time we may have left to finish what needs to be done.
A Fantastic poetic offering Carmen, the lines run through the hour glass with ease and resonates a powerful allergorical imagery. 'Tis' now saved in my library. Superb!
Have a wonderful Christmas and equally wonderful New Year.
One fine line after another drifts through THE SANDS OF TIME. Amazing how you make this familiar saying into something so fresh and vibrant. Love the psychological intensity, absorbing imagery, and philosophical muscle of this write.
Excellent allegory that has the feel of a mini Pilgrim's Progress, somehow... but that's probably just me. You are a wonderful storyteller, Carmen... must be a legacy of that wonderful Father of yours! :)) Love the central image of the sands of time and the shapeshifting of it all - so subtle yet strong and compelling... like walking the desert in search of the elusive oasis. Beautiful, too. You are a musical poet. And the picture took my breath away... identical to a beach scene at Valdevaqueros, Punta Paloma, Tarifa, Southern Spain in the summer, where the natural dunes hewn by cold Atlantic drifts reach to over 50 feet... proves your point a little, I think. TY - adore this. Kate xx
Indeed this is a wonderfully crafted and intelligent piece of poetry
that reaches the parts, that other poets aspire to Carmen !
You travel across the sands of time in surreal style and mood

THIS is some fine poetry. You gave this some serious thought and it shows. You presented life as the struggle that it truly is, one step at a time, faltering, failing, winning, then comes the eclipse. Nil. Fantastic. Yup, this one goes in my library.
