A friendly alien obviously from a more advanced civilization than our poor planet, has some unpleasant observations to make upon the profane existence of this self-important world called Earth.
Cosmic Traveler Looking For A Nice World
There is this grim world I came to visit.
They say it’s a nice place--but it isn’t!
But while there I did see some pleasant things:
A small school church, with a bell that rings.
And strange human children...swinging on swings!
Other childish humans were also there,
Gathered and doing something they call prayer.
And dressed up all nice--neither flecked nor flawed,
(But looking really reverent and awed!)--
I found them praying to someone named God.
But what’s in a name...but what worlds become?
Yes, a different one where I come from!
And beyond my unseen reverent lurch
I watch them fuss and flock inside a church...
To find the god lost in their human search.
Oh such a nice place--but nicer outside!
Where other gods of worse natures abide.
The gods called hunger, poverty and need.
(Gods called jealousy, selfishness and greed!)
Behind whom prayer and reverence recede.
Oh outside, looking in, it’s all the same:
Another world riddled with guilt and shame!
One more world in my itinerary
In my quest to find one luminary...
And not so wicked and ordinary.
Hell, life’s full of disappointments, and more!
But I’ve got other planets to explore.
And other races to seek out and find:
Of pure spirit and utopian mind!
That the same nameful Creator designed.
For out here in the great, vast universe
Better worlds exist and haply converse
(Finding ones like Earth is our only curse!)
Still, I may return again to visit...
They say it’s a nice place--but it isn’t!

I know how hard poetry is, and I guess if you love it so much to endure such difficulty, you must keep at it. Good luck to you, you certainly do have a talent for this. I suppose I should take my own advice. I used to love it so much, until Family Court enslaved me.
Well. I suppose if someone were to look at humans only by watching and reading news that is what they would get from it. If we all were spiritual clones of those who are seen and heard most, this planet would be a scary and cold place to live.
hahaha compared to what?

Looking for a nice world? Keep going right on past this place called Earth, there they are still children, hell not even past its infancy and as it goes, it may not make it much past puberty...
A different idea for a write, Pat, and an excellent one, glad I stopped by to read it...Peace is the ONLY way, Ed & Rufuz
Questions, unquestioned discoveries, and answers in parable and rhyme…. This collection records a journey starting with a 1960s retrospective and the first man on the moon, moving to a new millennium welcomed in with a terrorist spin, family crises,
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
