An ordinary day, an ordinary way
People at work, people at play

Out of the skies, first came one
Then came another

Like an arrow piercing a heart
They left their mark, shattering
windows, melting steel, scattering
paper and debris everywhere
Snuffing out life as easily as
a breath on a candle

Souls rising faster than the gates
of heaven could receive them

Angels weeping and people creeping
Men, women, children, animals
Their clothes and skins ablaze
Running amuck with nowhere to go

Brave firemen traversing unknown
stairways filled with noxious smoke
and smells of death, risking their lives
so others might live

Police trying valiantly to instill calm
out of terror

Hell on earth in this towering inferno

Why, people ask?
What have we done?
There are no answers

Only hate in the hearts of a few
have caused this residue

Will it ever end?
Will hearts ever mend?
Will life return to normal again?

Pray, pray, for saneness in the world
Let God’s glory heal the pain

Shadows fade but memories linger on

Tomorrow is another day
Another day for understanding
Another day for peace
