Between Worlds

My recently deceased father
visited me last night
in a curious dream,
both dead and alive,
secretly painting
Teddy Bear faces
on stones and trees,

and when I looked closely at his face
I knew he was neither gone nor present.
He was beyond all we know

of such things, his blood drained,
his veins filled with preservatives.

And yet speaking.

The secret was in the Teddy Bears
that looked so content and childlike,
as if reflecting the best of dreams
in a dreaming world.

As one who studies dreams, I knew immediately the Teddy Bears were key. I hope this dream brings you some internal peace. This is a wonderful write, Kevin. Thanks for sharing.

This just grabbed me ... it has a serious, yet whimsical feel to it. I got goosebumps reading it.

i was struck by this. there was whimsy to the image of teddy bears, and yet there was nothing whimsical about this whatsoever. that's the only way i can describe this.
